ARTIST BIO

JORGE L. CRUZ

In 1992, Jorge relocated to the picturesque Pocono Mountains from Northeastern New Jersey, where he enrolled in a stained glass course offered by Monroe County Vo-Tech's continuing education program. Initially a mere pastime, this endeavor quickly evolved into a fervent passion. The course served as an introduction to stained glass, focusing on fundamental techniques through the creation of a simple sun catcher.

Upon completing the class and crafting his sun catcher, Jorge found himself yearning for more than just the basics. His subsequent endeavor was a 3,000-piece wisteria lamp shade, which occupied his free time for several months, solidifying his commitment to the art form. Through his creations, he captures images from his surroundings or his imagination, transforming them into stunning glass artworks. He begins with a concept, sketches it out as a pencil drawing, and then navigates the complexities of translating that drawing into stained glass.

 

Jorge is dedicated to ensuring that his pieces are true works of art rather than mere crafts. Every creation, starting from that initial lamp shade, is uniquely designed by him. He seeks to emulate the beauty found in the masterpieces of renowned artists. His inspiration is drawn from figures such as Picasso, Frida Kahlo, and Da Vinci, whose boldness and realism resonate with him. He strives to infuse these qualities into his own work, relishing the process of transforming his ideas from thoughts to paper and ultimately into glass.
